Starburst

There was darkness before I came into the light.
I have no memory of what went before.
Were there stars to keep me warm?
Was I helped to exist in another form?

I have no memory of what went before
I woke into this painful dawn
Helped to exist in another form,
Crawling with slippers across the floor

I woke into this painful dawn,
Such was my first memory of life,
Crawling with slippers across the floor,
With slippers on hands towards my parents

Was my first memory of life,
Both now dead laughing and young
With slippers on hands towards my parents
Laughing at me so small and dumb

Both now dead laughing and young.
The carpet in the flat shone in the sun
Laughing at me, so small and dumb.
This merry playground encompassed my world.

The carpet in the flat shone in the sun.
But then I forget what happened next
In the merry playground that encompassed my world.
I must have reached the finishing line

But then I forget what happened next
Till I remember being carried through a door,
I must have reached the finishing line,
Staring up at a white ceiling

Till I remember being carried through a door
And then I was crying out and upset
Staring up at a white ceiling,
Pathetic as a drunk, helpless as old age

And then I was crying and upset
Knowing that I must rejoin the night
Pathetic as a drunk, helpless in old age,
After the starburst again disintegrates,

I know that it's time to rejoin the night.
I have no memory of what went before,
After the starburst again disintegrates,
There is darkness after I go from the light.
